Israel to deport members of the European Parliament Participating Fleet to Gaza

SeributawaNews - Israel will deport EU parliamentarians from Ireland to their home country on Friday tomorrow (11/11), in which members of parliament are among more than 20 people arrested for attempting to break the Israeli naval blockade to sail to Gaza, Israel's mission to the European Union said Wednesday (9 / 11).

European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek earlier called on Israel to immediately release Paul Murphy, a member of the Socialist Party of Ireland and other European citizens who were detained by Tel Aviv.

Israel's mission in Brussels said that after his arrest last week, Murphy has offered to leave Israel by signing an affidavit within 72 hours, but lawmakers refused.

"It is unfortunate that Paul Murphy, a member of the European Parliament, chose to instigate a political provocation by trying to break the naval blockade despite clear EU position on this issue," the mission said in a statement.

"Friday, November 11, 2011, Paul Murphy will be deported to Ireland after a brief detention by immigration authorities attempt to violate Israel following Israel's naval blockade on Gaza," the statement said.

A spokesman for the parliamentary wing group says Paul Murphy assumed that he was kidnapped in international waters, and refused to be deported immediately because he challenged the fact that he must appear before a judge of Israel. (eramuslim)
